Costa Rica Day 12: Fun on the high seas

Unfortunately gentle readers, it appears that our adventures here in lovely Costa Rica our quickly coming to a close.  While Elsa and I have looked into buying property here, getting work permits, and changing our professions to nature guides (the demand for small animal vets being low here of course), it does appear that, for now at least, we will be returning home later this week.  However, we still have a few more adventures to pursue…
The emergency exit double as a waterslide...
interesting.

If you look close you can see a dolphin. Trust me it was more
impressive in real life.

Today we were picked up by a group called Planet Dolphin for an ocean adventure.  Upon boarding the bus, I immediately knew we would be in good company.   There were no fewer then 3 Red Sox hats among the crowd and at least five people from the New England area.  I could tell that this group would be fun.

So EJ and I boarded a huge catamaran with 85 other passengers.  This boat was great, with nets to sit on if wanted, a waterslide, snorkeling gear, and a bar with free drinks.  It wasn’t long before dolphins were sited swimming by the boat (one even jumped into the air--- ‘Showtime!’).  EJ even saw a couple of flying fish.  We got good videos of this, but the pics aren’t great simply because they were hard to time.

After playing with dolphins, we went snorkeling off the coast.  The tides were a little rough, the water wasn’t completely clear but it was still fun.  We saw surgeonfish, gobies, and lots of other cool fish.  We also got to swim in the warm waters and go down a waterslide.  After that, we were treated to fresh fruit, fish-ka-bobs, and pasta salad.  On the way back home we enjoyed a sunset over the ocean.  In the end, we had a very fun, yet relaxing day on the Pacific.

We were not done yet, though.  Elsa and I decided to get all dressed up and go out to dinner.   We had fancy dinner of red snapper for me and mahi mahi for EJ.  Quick side note, there is so much good seafood here… its really hard for me to branch out and not have pacific lobster every night, tonight was a good start in the right direction.  On our way home from dinner, we even got to see a sloth on the telephone wires.  No squirrel monkeys yet .... but there are still a few days left.

Three toed sloth out for a night-time stroll.
I’ll let you know when we find these elusive primates…
